Why Rogue RN Began

One Nurse. One Family. One Broken System.

This story doesn’t start in a hospital. It starts in a rural kitchen, with a phone call that made my stomach drop. My dad—strong, stubborn, dad—was loading into an air ambulance for transfer from an accidental gunshot wound. And what should have been a surgical stay and recovery at a level 1 trauma center, turned into a near-death experience because someone missed an infection. Something basic. Something that should have been caught.

He had my mother and I visiting and someone staying every day. I was doing everything I could to ask the right questions, push for labs, demand answers. And if I hadn’t? I truly believe he wouldn’t be here today.

The missed infection entered his bone, cost him a limb and months in the hospital with additional surgeries and recovery. It drastically changed his life, and everyone in the family.

That time in our lives lit a fire in me. It changed me. Because I knew – not everyone has a nurse in the family – if could happen to my dad, it could happen to anyone.

The Truth About the System We Work In

I’ve spent my life in healthcare. I’ve been the nurse, the leader, the one responsible for teams, outcomes, and patient safety. And I’ve also seen behind the curtain—where cracks are papered over, where staff are burned out, and where patients fall through the gaps.

It’s not just a “bad apple” here or there. It’s a broken system—and good people are trying to survive inside it.

But what about the people on the outside? The patients, the families, the caregivers who don’t know how to navigate it?

That’s why I created The Rogue RN.

What ‘Rogue’ Really Means

I chose the word Rogue on purpose. Because I’m done following the unspoken rules that say:

“Don’t question the doctor.”

“Don’t rock the boat.”

“Stay quiet and go along.”

No. Not anymore.

Being Rogue means speaking up. Telling the truth. Advocating like hell when no one else will.

It means giving patients the tools to be heard. It means giving nurses and healthcare staff a voice—outside the system that often silences them.

It means building something better.

Who This Is For

The Rogue RN is for:

  • The patient who’s been ignored or dismissed.
  • The caregiver trying to hold it all together.
  • The nurse who’s burned out but still gives a damn.
  • The quiet warriors who feel like they’re screaming into the void.

It’s for anyone who’s ever walked away from a medical appointment thinking, “That didn’t feel right… but I don’t know what to do.”

Where We Go From Here

This isn’t just a blog. It’s a mission.

I’m here to:

  • Break down complicated healthcare crap into plain language.
  • Share real-life tools and scripts to help you advocate.
  • Build a community where patients and healthcare staff can actually talk.

Because change doesn’t start with policy. It starts with people.

And if you’re reading this? You’re one of those people.

So let’s go rogue—together.
